In the Niva.

Kinja'd!!!

My roommate just decided he needed to move my Lada (without asking me first!!!), just roll it back six feet so he could get his car into the garage as well. He, as well as his buddy and girlfriend, are all familiar with the manual transmission, and yet were stumped by the three sticks. My roommate finally called me, and I get out there. The buddy has his foot on the clutch, and the girlfriend is pushing (on my hood!) and not succeeding in moving anywhere. Buddy hops out, I look in. In the order from the front-most lever... transmission in neutral, centre diff half-way to locked (it usually doesn't lock unless I'm rolling slowly), transfer case in neutral.

I reach in, release the handbrake, and push the Niva back, pushing on the pillar behind the driver's door. It takes me about 10 seconds all told.

My roommate's girlfriend is still around, but he's getting a pretty stern warning about touching my car without permission when she leaves.

Worth mentioning, the above Niva interior isn't mine. It's much newer than mine, I think it's a 2010 model. You can tell by the updated steering wheel, and seat upholstery. Everything else is still the same as it is in my '96... because Lada.

My dad had an IH Scout with a similar setup. But his had a big flat steel dash panel that all the instructions were riveted to. Totall miss that old rig... A 4-banger with pistons the size of dinner plates (not literally).

There's a small card with the shifter patterns to the left of the gear lever, although I don't know they saw it. They managed to get both the transmission and tcase in neutral, plus the guy with his foot on the clutch. So technically it was in neutral three times... they just failed at knowing how to car, and didn't release the handbrake.
